Fly Of The Month
December 2001
Angel Baby Baitfish by Frank Abbate
This pattern is comprised of a great new product [pretty new] called Angel
Hair.
The technique to tie this fly is your basic hi-lo tie.
Materials Used:
Angel Hair- Peacock and Pearl
Thread: Fine Mono clear
Hook: Tiemco 800s 1/0-3/0
Eyes- Witchcraft stick-on
Epoxy: 5 min.
Tying Instructions:
[1] Place hook in vice and make your first turn of thread at the bend of the
hook.
[2] Take a medium bunch of pearl angel hair, about 3inch longer than the hook
length, and tie in.
[3] Begin tying alternate bunches of pearl hair along the shank of the hook.
[4] When you get to about a 1/4 inch behind the hook eye, change to olive hair
for the remainder of the top portion, while continuing with the pearl along
the bottom.
[5] With your bodkin, separate any hair that is tangled or knotted.
[6] Place your stick-on eyes on the fly and epoxy around them.
[7] Remove the fly from the vice and preen the hair to get ready to trim for
the final taper.
