Materials
· Hook - Mustad 34007 size 3/0 or similar
· Tail - White saddle hackles (long)
· Upper Wing - Olive Dyed Grizzle Neck Hackle (long)
· Lower Wing - White Bucktail
· Body - Opal Body tubing
· Throat - Krystal Flash, Red
· Flash - Krystal Flash, Red and Olive
· Eye - 3.0 silver/black stick-on
· Thread - White
· Misc. - Head cement, Goop
Directions
1. Place hook in vise and tie 4 or 5 white hackles to the end of the hook allowing
the hackle to flow back behind the hook.
2. Tie in 5 or 6 strands of pearl Krystal Flash along both sides of the hackle.
3. Wrap the shank of the hook in Opal Body tubing (or other pearl tubing/braided
material). Secure behind hook eye.
4. Tie a medium clump of white Bucktail under the hook as a lower wing.
5. Tie 10 short strands of red Krystal Flash over the Bucktail as throat.
6. Tie 4 or 5 olive dyed Grizzle Hackles on top of the hook as an upper wing.
7. Tie 5 or 6 strands of olive Krystal Flash on both sides of the olive Grizzly
Hackle.
8. Whip finish the head and coat with head cement.
9. Place a drop of Goop on the back of each eye and press them onto the body
at the hook shank level just behind the hook eye.
10. Done!
Description
This fly is an excellent pattern for imitating medium and large sand eels as well as peanut bunker, shad and herring. The long flowing hackles make a lot of motion and the fly is still thin enough to be cast very well.
