The Salty Flyrodders of New York have a great season of fishing tripsplanned for this year. We've added a couple of new locations to the roster in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey as well as a couple of possible destination trips. Our plans for the 45th Annual Conclave is taking shape. We sold out last year, so be sure to get your applications in early! The program will include formal casting training for beginners or anyone wishing to extend the distance and accuracy of their cast through improved technique. A Master Certified Fly Fishing Federation casting instructor will lead the training Saturday morning and a special Spey casting clinic will be held Sunday morning. The dates for the Conclave are June 8th, 9th & 10th this year and we will continue the onshore guide experience program we launched last year since it was so well received. A round-table lunch is now included in the cost of the program where the guides will answer any and all of your questions to help improve your skills in locating and enticing fish to your fly! Look for applications at The Fly Fishing Show in Somerset, NJ where our club will have our booth January 27th, 28th and 29th. We're looking for volunteers to operate the booth for an hour or two and the first 8 to volunteer will get free admission to the show for the first day they give their time. Presentations are being made by me and Scott Paciello on fly fishing the North Fork so check us out to wet your appetite for the Conclave!!
We also have beach clean up activity in the planning for Breezy Point and Little Neck Bay this Spring and we continue to offer free fly tying lessons to members ahead of meetings and now we are even prepared to help with casting skill indoors with the investment of several Joan Wulff Fly-O rods. The bottom line is that there is great opportunity for members to become active in the club and to benefit personally as a result of it. Most importantly, the Saltys will be fishing together more frequently AND more effectively as the club takes each small step forward into the future…and it looks to be a great one, so come JOIN US!!
Tight Lines,
